This limited edition silk twill scarf features Kehinde Wiley’s painting Two Heroic Sisters of the Grassland (2011). Titled after the Chinese parable about two Mongolian sisters, who almost sacrifice their lives to protect their flock of sheep, the piece depicts two subjects, possibly brothers, standing side by side with their arms in a salute. Based around a story which explores themes of dedication and perseverance, this piece demonstrates the power of unity over division and the importance of the Black community to engage in harmony, especially in the face of adversity. This scarf also features a patterned background of navy blue chrysanthemums attached to graceful vines.
The scarf is made from Italian silk twill with the image printed on both sides and is presented in a monogrammed rigid box, wrapped in branded tissue paper.
Net proceeds from your purchase support the artist in residence program Black Rock Sénégal, founded by Wiley in 2019.
