This all-over printed notebook features one of Kehinde Wiley’s early works from the series Conspicuous Fraud, a group of paintings which emphasize and explore the beauty of natural black hair. The Conspicuous Fraud Series Notebook draws inspiration from Wiley’s artwork of the same name, made by the artist while he was in residence at the Studio Museum in Harlem in 2001. Twisting and turning through the sky, the contours of the subject’s oversized Afro hairdo transform into clouds, confusing the relationship of the subject and the background of the picture.
