CLASSICS Polkue Silkkikuikka dress

“I was dancing with brushes,” said Maija Isola. In 1961, she spent many evenings and nights working in Marimekko’s print factory – painting in gentle, sweeping brushstrokes to the sway of music. Meter upon meter of new patterns emerged. On one of those nights, Silkkikuikka (great crested grebe), a pattern of alluring rhythm and simplicity, saw daylight.
The Polkue button-up dress is made of cotton poplin in the Silkkikuikka pattern, which is printed in Helsinki. The dress has metal buttons, a chest pocket, and a separate belt. The sleeve ends have single-button cuffs with slits and the hemline has a rounded cut.
