Lebanese brand Orient 499 proves that luxury can be sustainable and sustainability can be luxurious. Founded in 2006 by Frank Luca and Aida Kawas, Orient 499 employs a fleet of Lebanese artisans—from woodworkers to embroiderers, glassmakers to couturiers—to create home decor, clothing, and accessories that are equal parts gorgeous, ethical, and "perfectly imperfect." In promoting the art of handcrafting, Orient 499 is helping to preserve precious Lebanese design traditions.

This item was created for the Heirloom Project. Led by designer Madeline Weinrib, this initiative seeks engagement with global artisans who pursue historic techniques and design principles to help preserve traditional craftsmanship.

Produced for The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, in partnership with Madeline Weinrib, creative director for The Heirloom Project.
